Oprah used to love asking her guests, “What advice would you give your younger self?” It’s a fabulous question because it acknowledges what I have so happily discovered in my career as an eyebrow specialist in Sydney:

We become so much wiser as we age without losing a drop of the humour or enthusiasm that we had when we were younger. We’re just a little smarter now.

Another great thing: as we get older, we generally have more money and more comfortable
circumstances that really let us enjoy life. Talk about awesome!

To be honest, I used to be one of those people who dreads birthdays – but not anymore. Now, I tell
myself I’m just getting better and better with each passing year. And it’s not just talk.

If I could go back and have a talk with the person I used to be, the one who feared every passing birthday, there’s so much I could tell her. I’ve shared some of it already, but here are three more tips that I think would make her life waayyy better if she could hear them from me now:

1. Keep it in Proportion!

Over time, we realize which things we can let go and which things are worth stressing over. We also learn our own limitations, so we’re less afraid to turn down requests that are going to take us beyond
boundaries in an uncomfortable way. That doesn’t mean we’re afraid to have adventures – on the contrary, I think I have more fun now that I’m 37 (see the next tip for why)! But maybe I care less what
people will think of me if I say “no.” I wish I’d learned that sooner.

2. Say Yes, Yes, Yes!

On the other hand… Life is too short to say no too often. Get positive, stay open to wonderful experiences that come at you from every side. That doesn’t mean you have to do every wacky thing
anyone suggests, but if you’re saying no, make sure you have a very good reason. And say yes as often as you think you have something to learn and room to grow in life.

3. It’s not a race – so don’t keep pace!

We all did this in our 20s, but I’m so grateful that I’ve outgrown this by the stage I’m at now. Who’s got more stuff? Who’s got the better job? Who had more kids, a happier marriage, a better house or car?
Forget about it! Ask yourself if you’re happy with where you are and what you have. If the answer is NO, then do what it takes to get where you’re going. Don’t look to one side or the other to see who has what.

And if the answer is YES, then take a minute – take a day, a week, the rest of your life, to savour how sweet things can be when you’re living life on your own schedule and your own terms. In the end, you don’t have anybody to answer to but yourself and the people you love and care about.

There’s no age that isn’t absolutely fabulous, especially if you look as great on the outside as you feel on the inside. So treat yourself – there is a range of incredible beauty techniques (just as me) that will let the Outer You reflect the beauty and tranquillity of the Inner You.

And that means you can stay young as long as you feel young – no matter what age it says on your birth certificate!
